Volunteering with the Y.O.B panel doesn’t have to take up a lot of your time, the panel meet regularly to make decisions about young people applications. We keep in touch by email and post and meet up occasionally to make plans, catch up on all the news and get fed!
The panel usually meets on a Wednesday evening from 5.30pm for two hours, although they do occasionally meet on a Tuesday.
There is the opportunity for each panel member to chair the meeting and for another panel member to take the minutes. You don’t have to do these jobs but you’ll gain more skills if you do!
When looking at an application the group will look at it together and score the application on a number of areas:
- Idea
- Opportunities to volunteer
- Need
- Young person led?
- Young person involvement
- Benefit
- Value for money
- Benefit to Ethnic Minorities/People with Physical or Learning Disabilities
You will get the chance to visit the projects that have been successful to see what they have spent their money on.
